dot-art are recruiting Primary and Secondary schools now to join their 3rd annual schools art competition!

dot-art Schools is an annual, online, inter-schools art competition which culminates in an exhibition of the winning artworks in Liverpool city centre in June 2015. The competition is open to both primary (year 6) and secondary (year 9) schools in the six boroughs of the Liverpool City Region. It is designed to nurture talent and raise ambition by taking art out of the classroom and into the real world.

dot-art Schools Project manager, Carolyn Murray states “we’re hoping this year’s competition will showcase even more work by talented young people, with as many Liverpool city region schools getting involved as possible.”

The programme continues to grow each year. In it’s pilot year 19 schools entered the competition, with over double the number of schools taking part the second year, bringing the total to 50!  Now in 2014 – 2015 the third year of the dot-art schools programme many Primary and Secondary schools have already signed up from Liverpool, Knowsley, Sefton, Halton, Wirral and St Helens.

The artwork will be judged by a panel of arts professionals and then by public vote. During the exhibition a guest judge will choose the overall winners.  Last year the exhibition was held at the prestigious Walker Art Gallery and the venue for 2015 exhibition will be announced soon.

The dot-art Schools programme offers a wonderful way for schools to demonstrate the quality of art work produced to parents, families, and the wider community. Teachers who took part last year noticed that it raised students confidence in their own ability and there was an increased interest in continuing to study art.  dot-art Schools also offers a great way of keeping young people engaged with the arts, allows them to see a creative career path, and encourages them to attend exhibitions and engage with culture, outside of school.
