Cultivating Creativity: PhD Collaboration with Goldsmiths University

Curious Minds is thrilled to share our latest collaboration with Goldsmiths University and South East Network for Social Sciences (SeNSS) for a new PhD opportunity titled: Creativity, curiosity and professional artists in schools.

Who are the partners?

This project marks a dynamic partnership between Goldsmiths, University of London, renowned for its interdisciplinary research, particularly in the psychological study of arts and creativity, and ourselves at Curious Minds. We are a charity devoted to ensuring every child and young person has access to the benefits of creativity, culture and curiosity. Goldsmiths is also a partner University for SeNSS who offer opportunities for social science research, training, and collaboration through their network of Universities.

What's the project?

Our innovative studentship project aims to delve into the influence of teaching artists—talented professionals who not only create but also lead workshops and residencies in schools. We're keen to understand how they spark creativity, critical thinking, and curiosity in school pupils—a crucial inquiry, especially given the current scarcity of arts and cultural educational opportunities.

The doctoral researcher will be at the forefront, conducting studies involving school pupils, teaching artists, and classroom teachers. Using advanced methods—both quantitative and qualitative—to dissect the findings from the research.

Guiding our researcher are experts from Goldsmiths, including Dr. Diana Omigie and Professor Alice Jones Bartoli, who are experts in art and education psychology. In addition, our own Dr. Steph Hawke, Head of Impact and Learning, whose extensive experience adds immense value to the project.
