A new project is being run in Rochdale by the Royal Exchange Theatre. Delivered as part of its Truth about Youth programme, the project will find theatrical ways to share people’s experiences of risk.

AT NIGHT is a theatre project about risks that young people take, the risks that older people took when they were young, the trouble we get in, the stupid things we’ve done and how it felt at the time. Young participants will work with exciting director Evie Manning to create a piece of theatre based on their experiences, to gain confidence and develop their drama skills – whether that’s as a performer, writer or as part of the technical team. The final piece will be staged outdoors around Rochdale and will be an immersive experience for the audience, bringing together the everyday and the epic.

A new theatre company will be formed comprising of people interested in performing, writing, designing, and gaining technical skills. In particular:

  • Young people between the ages of 16 and 21 years old.
  • Young people not in full time education: some in work, some unemployed.
  • The project would run from the beginning of October until the first or second week of December 2014 (provisionally one session a week and then an intensive week leading up to the performance/sharing in early December).

Open Workshop / Meeting

The project developers would like to meet with as many different young people as possible, in a practical workshop, to gauge the level of interest in the project. This session will take place on September 1st, 1-3pm at M6 Theatre Company (http://www.m6theatre.co.uk/contact-us/map-and-directions/). This is not an audition. It will be a friendly practical workshop to gauge interest and talk about the project further.
