Creative connections that span generations

Curious Minds is delighted to invite applications for Bridging the Distance, our new two-day professional development programme designed to enhance creative interactions between early years children and older people in intergenerational spaces.

Up to 12 paid places are available on this programme for freelance cultural practitioners and artists based in the North West. Successful applicants will be expected to attend two face-to-face training workshops, on 21st June and 5th July 2022, and to complete a simple inter-sessional action-learning task. In return, a bursary of £450 will be paid.

Bridging the Distance is a new and dynamic collaboration between Curious Minds and the intergenerational charity, Ready Generations. If you are new to intergenerational projects or aspiring to understand more in order to expand the reach of your work then this two-day programme is for you.

We believe truly world class intergenerational work should:
  • Be rooted in the reality of people’s lived experience
  • Recognise the centrality of human dignity
  • Ensure experiences take place in meaningful contexts
  • Meet the diverse needs of all participants and be clear about impact
  • Build sustained relationships
  • Make experiences real, exciting and inspirational
  • Develop the whole person – intellectual, aesthetic, physical, emotional, spiritual and social
  • Excite imaginations and fire curiosity
  • Raise aspirations and widen horizons
  • Provide hope and a desire to make the world a better place

How to apply

First, we recommend that you read the course overview document.

It is important to understand that you must be a freelance cultural practitioner or artist, based in North West England and available to attend both of the pre-arranged training dates (which will take place at a venue in the North West) in order to qualify. These dates are:

  • Tuesday 21st June 2022
  • Tuesday 5th July 2022

Successful applicants will receive an individual bursary payment of £450 (which is inclusive of travel, attendance and course tasks).
To apply, complete the online Expression of Interest form. The deadline for submitting applications is midnight on Tuesday 7th June 2022. We aim to communicate with all applicants to advise of the outcome of their application by Friday 10th June 2022.

If you have any outstanding questions or need support with the Expression of Interest form, please email Louise Hesketh, Cultural Education Manager, or Jude Bird, Executive Director of Learning and Workforce, who will be happy to help.
