The Opportunity

Curious Minds is inviting a racially diverse team of Creative Practitioners to train as Affinity Group facilitators and to work with us to develop and test anti-racism workshops for schools and youth groups.

This presents an exciting opportunity for both emerging and experienced teaching artists and creative practitioners to work with international equity, inclusion and anti-racism expert Mariama Richards (from Channel 4’s ‘The School That Tried to End Racism’) and to experience the Affinity Groups process first-hand.

It is also an opportunity to enhance your CV and develop vital online and in-person creative facilitation skills at a time when blended and remote learning have become essential aspects of our education system.

Following this research and development phase, we anticipate being able to offer ongoing paid work opportunities to the group.

The Commitment

8 days between January and July 2021.

The majority of the training and development sessions will take place online with occasional face-to-face sessions in Manchester.

Who we are looking for

We are offering this paid professional development opportunity to 15 Teaching Artists and Creative Practitioners.

For the project to go ahead we need to recruit a racially diverse group with lived experience of growing up in the North of England and experiencing racism. We are particularly keen to receive expressions of interest from teaching artists and creative practitioners who identify as Black or South Asian.

Participants will be attached to one of three Affinity Groups: White, Black or South Asian.

You will be a confident group facilitator with experience of working with children and young people in schools or community settings. You will be passionate about equity, inclusion and anti-racism work; and about creating opportunities for young people to exercise their voice, influence and leadership.

Bursary Fee

We are offering a flat rate fee at Curious Minds standard bursary rate of £125 per day plus reasonable travel and access expenses. Following this research and development phase, we anticipate being able to offer ongoing paid work opportunities to the group.
