Creative experiences are crucial in early childhood, building powerful connections in the brain associated with the development of focus, independence, a willingness to explore and ingenuity.

How the network came about

Scribbles Learning Network was formed as a direct outcome of a research project undertaken by Manchester Metropolitan University, Curious Minds and Manchester Art Gallery in 2023. The ‘CoLab’ project explored how collaboration and skills exchange between artists and early years practitioners can support and enhance playful practice in early childhood education. It affirmed the value of arts-led approaches in early years settings and demonstrated how collaborative inquiry can lead to professional growth and innovation.

What the network offers

Convened and supported by Curious Minds, this network serves as a platform for a diverse and passionate community, encompassing early years practitioners, educators, artists, and researchers. The network fosters collaboration, idea-sharing, and professional development opportunities beyond traditional curriculum-based approaches.

Up to four meetings are held annually (usually online but with in-person opportunities) which provide a space for members to exchange insights, explore innovative practices, and learn from each other's experiences in early years education.

These gatherings foster a supportive environment where members can delve into diverse approaches to early years education, embracing creative, experiential learning methods.
