Matthew brings a wealth of financial, commercial and strategic insight to our Board, on which he serves as Vice Chair and Treasurer.
Professionally, Matthew has worked for Marks & Spencer, Northumbria, Sunderland and Newcastle Universities, and extensively within the non-departmental governent agency, UK Research & Innovation (UKRI).
In his current role, Matthew is Associate Director of Programmes at the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) which is part of UKRI. Here he leads strategic oversight of several multi-agency programmes, designed to bring about systemic positive change within communities, allowing him to see, first hand, the the social and economic value the arts and creativity bring to projects that seek to address urgent and complex contemporary societal challenges.
Outside his professional life, Matthew currently also volunteers in a non-executive role on the National Trust’s North of England advisory group, and has served as an elected Governor of the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
