Maybe you’ve just finished school or college and haven’t decided what you want to do next.

Do you enjoy being creative? This could be making your own YouTube videos, sharing photos on Instagram, or writing your own songs, and loads more.

Are you aged 16-25 and based in Wigan?

What is Curious Works?

Curious Works is a new project helping the young people of Wigan to:

Build their confidence

Develop essential skills for life and work

Either try a creative job or help plan and run an event for other young people

What does it involve?

Boost your confidence and learn new skills with our Skills Masterclasses.

Topics include things like confidence building, social media for professional use, communication skills.
Delivered by creative employers so you’ll get to meet people doing jobs that interest you.
It’s not about teaching you creative skills like songwriting or how to make videos. We can tell you about other organisations that can do that with you. This project is about helping you be more confident and develop the skills needed for your next steps in a fun and creative way.
The masterclasses will be a mixture of listening to ideas or how to do something, and then working either individually or in a small group to try it out and developing your skills.
You won’t be expected to sit still and be quiet. You’ll be expected to join in with practical tasks that challenge and inspire you. You can do this in a way that suits you and you can duck out if needed.
You can attend one masterclass or all of them. It’s up to you.

On Thursday 24th October.
A half day event that’s interactive. There will be things to do and people to talk to, people who have creative jobs in and around Wigan.
Hear from inspirational arts leaders and chat with them about your own goals and creative ambitions.

Get paid work experience with a flexible part time job with an arts organisation in Wigan.

A limited number of placements are available and are subject to selection.
Working two days a week for three months - November to January 2025.
Exact workdays will be agreed between you and your employer.
You will be paid £12 per hour (real living wage).
You will have a Mentor to help you get the most of out of the opportunity.

Discover new talents and skills as a Young Producer for the Curious Works event.

Attend weekly sessions to design and deliver an event in January 2025.
You’ll get practical hands-on experience whilst being supported by experienced professionals.
We’ll teach you everything you need to know, and you’ll receive a weekly fee or gift vouchers for attending each session.
You will have a Mentor to help you get the most of out of the opportunity and plan your next steps.

What else do I need to know?

The Masterclasses and Producer activities will take place on Thursdays from October 2024, in Wigan town centre (exact location to be announced).
Public transport costs will be reimbursed on the day for anything you attend. We'll need to see your ticket. If taxis are your only transport option, please speak to us beforehand.
Lunch will usually be provided. When it isn't lunch costs up to £5 will be reimbursed on the day for anything you attend. Keep your receipts please!
There will be a Peer Mentor at each activity. Their job will be to help you get the most out of the session, understand what’s happening and give any extra support needed.
There are no requirements for previous qualifications, like GCSE maths and English. All sessions will be delivered in plain-English and accessible to anyone with spoken English skills.
There is no dress code. Come as you are.
