The choir at St Augustine’s CE Primary School in Manchester has been selected to take part in a music project with The Bridgewater Hall, The Southbank Centre and The Royal Festival Hall in London.

It’s the only school in Manchester to be chosen and one of only four schools in the country.

The choir visited The Bridgewater Hall on Monday 16th December for an organ concert and a tour of the venue and on Tuesday 17th December a member of staff from the Hall came to visit them at school to get to know the choir.

Rehearsals are well under way on a specially commissioned piece by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies and the poet Jo Shapcott. There will then be a two night visit to London from 17th-19th March 2014 where the choir will perform at The Royal Festival Hall and attend an organ exhibition at The Southbank Centre. Finally they will perform for their peers, family and friends at The Bridgewater Hall on the 2nd April 2014.

This project is really significant for our school as we are in an extremely deprived area of Manchester and this is likely to be a once in a lifetime opportunity for our pupils.
