Evidence Champions: A new national network for arts and cultural learning professionals

EVENT: Information and scoping workshop

VENUE: The Lowry, Salford Quays, M50 3AZ

TIME & DATE: 27th February 2018, 17.00-19.30

The RSA and the Arts Council Bridge Organisations are working together to create a national network of Evidence Champions in arts and cultural learning – practitioners who are seeking to improve the way that they use evidence and evaluation in their work. We are looking for practitioners, teachers and local cultural education partnership representatives to take part from September 2018. Please join us at this workshop on 27th February 2018 from 5pm -7.30pm to find out more and to tell us what would help you and your organisation most.

You can sign up here and read more information below.

This project is part of the RSA’s Learning About Culture Programme, supported by Arts Council England, the Paul Hamlyn Foundation and the network of Bridge Organisations.

What is an Evidence Champion?
A sector that’s always improving and that can communicate the benefits it brings needs practitioners who can use research and evidence more confidently and more effectively. Recently, there has been a growth of practitioner-led movements in schools, youth work and range of other areas, which are improving how research is used to inform practice. Our Evidence Champions are individuals working in arts and cultural learning, committed to the best possible outcomes for participants and who pledge to take responsibility for developing the use of evidence and evaluation in their own work and that of their organisation.

Who can become an Evidence Champion?
The Evidence Champions will be a mix of cultural learning practitioners, teachers and local cultural education partnership leads. We are looking for Evidence Champions with different levels of experience and confidence in research and evaluation. The programme will be designed to support you to develop and improve your level of ability, whatever your starting point.

How will it work?
Regional groups of 10-15 Evidence Champions will participate in a 1-day training session (September 2018) before working on a self-identified challenge that will enable them to develop their evidence and evaluation competency over a 6 month period. While working on the project, they will receive peer-to-peer mentoring and expert advice as well as coaching from RSA researchers, finally reporting on their developments in summer 2019. Participants will also be expected to identify opportunities to motivate others in their organisations and networks to improve their use of evidence. There is no fee to participate.
